Help Rescue Dogs from Torture in China
Many of us have heard about the consumption of dogs and cats in parts of Asia, a sad and disturbing thought for all animal lovers. But did you know it’s common practice for these dogs and cats to be brutally tortured before slaughter, as this is believed to enhance the meat's flavor?
The dog and cat meat trade exists throughout Asia all year round, but the annual Yulin Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, China, epitomizes the horrific brutality of this cruel industry. From June 21st through 30th this year, thousands of dogs and cats will be subjected to horror-movie-like torture in the name of tastier meat. Some will be blowtorched, boiled or skinned alive. Others will have their limbs and other parts of their bodies cut off while they’re still alive. Before even reaching the festival, these animals have been horrendously abused. Deprived of food and water, they're weak and dehydrated. Hundreds are stuffed into one truck, often causing broken legs and suffocation. Many of the dogs are stolen pets, once protected by loving owners, now subjected to unimaginable pain and suffering for the rest of their short lives. Their only hope is for caring people around the world to speak out against this atrocity and join forces to permanently put an end to this festival of horror.
NoToDogMeat, a UK rescue organization committed to ending the dog and cat meat trade in Asia, has activists on the ground in China ready to intercept trucks of dogs coming into Yulin. Survivors will be taken to the organization’s shelter in Hebei, China, where they'll receive medical treatment and loving care in preparation for adoption. Most of the dogs will be adopted out to homes in the UK and U.S. This process from rescue to rehoming is extremely expensive, and the shelter is still caring for many Yulin survivors from previous years.
Please join me in helping NoToDogMeat rescue as many dogs and cats as possible and put an end to the Yulin festival for good. All donations will go directly to NoToDogMeat Foundation (World Protection for Dogs and Cats in the Meat Trade). You can also help by signing their petition to close all dog meat markets in China.
