Help Rescue Climber Alexis Rousseau

Our Situation
On January 30th 2019, a climber from the local dirtbag community rescued me and my climbing partner Kim from the 3rd pitch of the Solar Slab route within Oak Creek Canyon Las Vegas.

The rescue happened when both me and Kim resigned to call our mutual friend Parker for help, after getting our rope stuck on rappel on the way down. We were stuck, with no way to retrieve the rope except free soloing about 80 feet to where the rope was stuck. To make the situation worse, our tag line for the rope was simply too thin to pull down the drag of the rope on its way down.

What Alexis Did For Us
Parker called our acquaintance Alexis, which until then we had only met a handful of times in short circumstances. This rescue was a HUGE ask for anyone - much less an acquaintance.  The national park had closed, which meant not only did the rescue partly had to find us in a pitch dark canyon, but also park outside the park, and hike 4 miles to the base of the Solar Slab wall. Above all else, we were stuck 900 feet above the floor of where this video was taken.

Long story short, Alexis and his friend Nathan showed up around 1 am and retrieved the rope for us. They showed up full of stoke, with a thermos filled with hot coffee! Needless to say the coffee was on point in the 35 degree weather. At 4am, we had hiked back to the van and ended the night by dropping Alexis and Nathan back at the car parked outside the park.

Why Alexis Needs Help
That is, until we talked to Alexis the next morning. In our tired haze, we had dropped Nathan and Alexis off at a car filled with broken glass. Someone had broken into Alexis' car during the rescue. His passport, and cell phone was stolen along with the vast majority of his climbing gear. Alexis had spent most of his morning at the police station reporting the incident. It was heart breaking to hear after Alexi and Nathan had pulled off such a selfless act.

And that is why we are here today. We'd like your support in helping us recover Alexi's climbing gear and fix his car. Climbing gear is expensive, and many of us spent a lot of our livelihoods acquiring it. And for many of us dirtbags, our cars are also our houses. This includes Alexi's car.

The story we told you today isn't just inspiring because Alexi and Nathan decided to come rescue us in the middle of the night. It's inspiring because this act of selflessness is at the core of our climbing community. We see this mentality in the stoke we share for each other's projects and sends. In the way we take care of our landscapes. The passion we share for each other's well being.

So today, we'd love for you to help pass this kindness forward and help keep the spirit of our climbing community thriving. We're willing to accept donations of all types - including gear donations! Let us know what we can do to help you help Alexis!
