Hi, my name is Michael Jacobson. I'm a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Ph.D. student, and passionate animal lover. I am starting this GoFundMe to raise funds for my travel and other related costs to venture to Ukraine and help the Breaking the Chains team conduct missions to rescue animals and deliver supplies to shelters in need. The majority of this donation will be used for my plane ticket from Chicago to Suceava, Romania, where the Breaking the Chains team will meet me to travel into Ukraine. I will plan to be there from May 6th to June 3rd.
A little more about myself and why I am embarking on this selfless act: I served five years in the Marine Corps and deployed overseas to Afghanistan. While overseas, I patroled IED-infested terrain while being safeguarded by diligent IED detection dogs. Fast-forward to coming home to the states, I worked with organizations, such as SPCA, to handle and foster international rescues and retired military working dogs. I genuinely attribute lives saved to working hand in hand with these remarkable animals and feel that it is my duty to continue caring for them and providing the loving home they deserve.
Also, I am clinically diagnosed with PTSD, so understanding what these animals are going through and the special care they require to decompress once rescued resonates well with me. Thank you very much for your donation, as it helps me immensely because I currently sustain my livelihood with a graduate student stipend.
