Help Roman Recover from Birthday Theft

Hi friends,

I’m sharing this with a heavy heart and a lot of reluctance, but several people encouraged me to create this after what happened to my son, Roman.

Shortly after a major burglary at our Mar Vista home, there was another theft in which items belonging to Roman were taken from a birthday gift bag, his drawer and his wallet was also stolen. Detectives investigated and believe it was an inside job, but without a confession the investigation has stalled. Unfortunately, our insurance will not cover these losses.

What was taken were not luxury items - they were meaningful, personal things: birthday gift cards, cash he received as a birthday gift, money gifted to him by a family member toward his class ski trip to Mammoth, his new wallet, and its contents including more gift cards and cash. Years’ worth of arcade cards with thousands of saved points were also taken. In addition, a container of loose change that I had been saving for many years was also stolen.

Losing these things all at once, especially right after his birthday and following the earlier burglary, was heartbreaking. We're still hoping that whoever took these items might have a change of heart and make an anonymous donation, or that someone who saw something that day will come forward with information.

This is what we intend to replace:

• Two $50 birthday gift cards

• $20 cash he received as a birthday gift

• $140 that had been gifted to him by a family member toward his class ski trip to Mammoth

• His wallet (new, recently purchased) $20 value

• Wallet contents including a $20 Starbucks card, two $25 gift cards, and $25 cash

• Years’ worth of arcade cards with thousands of saved points (Castle Park) priceless!

In addition, a container of loose change that I had been saving for many years was also taken. There was at least $400 in there but also cool bills and old coins

If you want to help solve the mystery, I can share the details and timeline of the day’s events, too.

This fund is simply to help replace what was lost and ensure Roman can still participate in his class ski trip. Any additional support after replacing the stolen items will go toward the cost of the trip itself. No pressure at all, even sharing means a lot.

Thank you for reading and for caring about Roman. With gratitude, Julia
