The Urban Ranger Corps serves young men in the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri navigate their world from 6th grade through high school. We have assisted them with school attendance and achieving a 2.3 GPA or better; provided support to help them deal with bullying issues, peer pressure to join a gang, issues with their family and siblings; and helped them survive teen hood and become the young men they are destined to be.
Early this spring, thieves broke into our storage area and stole the catalytic converters from 3 vans owned by Urban Ranger Corps. These vans are utilized throughout the summer to get our young men to work. They work to assist with community gardens, work at community clean up events, volunteer at our local food bank. Our young men earn a small salary for their work which is often used to buy school supplies, clothes and in some cases assist their families with groceries and utilities. We are seeking funds to purchase 3 new catalytic converters and have them installed in our vans. If we don’t have the vans repaired it means we would have to rent 3 vans for our 5 week program at a cost of approximately $10,000.
Since 2005 we have worked with more than 900 young men, ages 12-18, helping them navigate their world from 6th grade through high school. Together we have assisted them with school attendance and achieving a 2.3 GPA or better; provided support to help them deal with bullying issues, peer pressure to join a gang, issues with their family and siblings; and helped them survive teen hood and become the young men they are destined to be. 75% of our young men are from single parent households. 90% of them come from households living below the poverty level.
