Help Reopen Thicketts Basic School in Jamaica

Dear Family, Close Friends, and those whom  I associate with in my Social and Professional networks. I pray that each and everyone of you have a Happy Holidays and a prosperous New Year.

As we attempt to adapt globally to these challenging times as a result of COVID-19 and it’s constant evolution, many are faced with the difficult task of trying to manage life’s basic necessities, such as our Mental, Physical and Spiritual Health. Although this pandemic has created economic and medical hardships for many of us, it has also impacted negatively on the education of our future generations. As I am confident as a Nation that we will rebound from this moment in the foreseeable future, we must face the fact that many impoverished and extremely low-income communities globally will not rebound at rate beneficial to the livelihoods and education of these children. 

Of those that have known myself and my dearly departed wife LaWana over the past several years, many of you have become witness to, or have joined us in our many community outreach efforts. Once again, I find myself in a position where I could offer assistance where desperately needed. 

Over the years we’ve been actively involved and have strongly supported and provided assistance to  a small community based pre/kindergarten school in a hillside farming town named Thicketts, near Discovery Bay in the Saint Ann parish of Jamaica. In an area where internet connection is poor and where many students can’t afford the internet or devices to connect to the internet; the children have been faced with severe learning loss over the last 18 months. A majority of these children have been home for the most part without any instruction. Recently, the public health inspectors visited the school and in their assessment concluded that the following must be in place before the school can be reopened: 

1. Repair leaking roof

2. Install insect screens on all windows. 

3. Replace leaking potable water tank.

With your support, It is my intention to help in the reopen of the school for face to face instruction in January, so the students can get back to learning.  I am reaching out to everyone near and abroad to help us to help the children return to learning!
