Help Reopen Temecula Valley Schools Legal Fund!

We are the Temecula Valley chapter of the Parents Association and we need your help in defending the constitutionally protected right to a free and equitable education for the nearly 28,000 students and their families served by the Temecula Valley School District.

For 13 months decisions and policy have been left to the sole discretion of TVUSD administration and employee Unions. Through their own admission, their primary responsibility is to represent and act in the best interests of their employees and the District at large. But who is there for the singular purpose of representing our children, some of the most vulnerable members in our community? Parents deserve an equal seat at the table in these matters and we are no longer content to wait patiently as our district and their union members make decisions based on fear over science at the expense of our children.

From the onset of this pandemic, district administration has assured us that they will not go above and beyond what is required of them by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Yet time and time again they have and continue to do so. It is urgent that our students be allowed to return to school for a full-time in person education WITHOUT  the safety theatre of plexiglass, 6’ social distancing, and classroom chemical fogging which are no longer mandated by the CDC or CDPH. The time for bargaining and negotiation happening at a snail’s pace must cease. With the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, behind us we now face a new epidemic. Many of our children must now grapple with the debilitating and life long effects of anxiety, depression, drug addiction, obesity, suicidal ideation, and self-harm and every day of continued isolation this epidemic worsens. An entire generation of Temecula Valley children have fallen behind academically, and those in vulnerable communities are suffering the most.

The TVUSD Mission Statement is, “High Quality Teaching and Learning for All”. But for 13 months our district has NOT upheld this standard. We cannot afford to lose a single additional day of full time in person learning for our children. We cannot afford to move forward without a solid plan in place to compensate our children for lost learning time. We cannot afford to move into yet another school year without a GUARANTEE that our children will have the option to return to a full-time in-person education at pre-pandemic standards.

To that end, we will now be legally challenging Temecula Valley Unified School District’s unlawful school closures in a court of law. Whether you can give $10 or $200, any amount will aid us in ensuring our children’s return to the classroom full time, 5 days per week. As we move forward, donations to our legal fund will directly impact our ability to influence TVUSD reopening plans now and into the future. Your financial support will help us hold them accountable. We must remedy the suffering and injustice our students have been subjected to over the past 13 months. We must take a stand in sending a message that our children should be the very first priority in all discussions moving forward.

TVUSD must offer full-time in-person instruction to their students as required by California law. Teachers were prioritized in receiving vaccines in our state to facilitate a resumption of in person learning. TVUSD has received more than $45 million dollars in tax payer COVID relief money to safely reopen schools, but have failed to do so in a manner that adequately provides for the education and well being of all our children. Reopening has been scheduled and cancelled a number of times. Then finally on March 15, 2021, after a full year closed, elementary schools opened for a mere 2.5 hours 4 days per week. Middle and High Schools opened for students in April 2021 for only 4.5 hours 2 days per week. Is this truly considered an adequate education in the Temecula Valley Unified School District? We answer with an unequivocal NO! This is not adequate for our children!

Your donation will  help us fund the legal challenge being brought forth by TVUSD parents to fully reopen schools and ensure that our students are made the first priority now and in the future.
