Froggy’s has been part of the Topanga Canyon community for decades. Over the years, it has gone through many chapters, including relocating and rebuilding after an arson fire burned the Topanga Fish Market in the early 1990s. Through it all, it has remained a place where people come together.

For the past several years, Froggy’s has been closed—not by choice.

Serving the community requires renewing what will be our third Conditional Use Permit—the approval needed to serve alcohol and have entertainment. We began the process in June of 2021, and it has taken much longer than expected. It has involved working with multiple county and state agencies, including Regional Planning, Public Works, Caltrans, and the Supervisor’s office.

At the same time, Topanga has faced repeated setbacks—rains, mudslides, fires, landslides, and long road closures—which slowed progress even further.

Through all of this, we kept moving forward—submitting plans and responding to agency requirements. But the costs didn’t stop. Insurance, utilities, taxes, and maintenance continued year after year—while the restaurant wasn’t operating.

We now have a path forward to a Conditional Use Permit.

But after years of delays, our resources have been depleted.

What remains is the final stretch: covering permits and licenses, restocking the kitchen, completing essential repairs—replacing the hot water heater, repairing or replacing refrigeration, servicing equipment, repainting, trimming trees, addressing a leaky roof—and preparing and training the team needed to reopen.

Before Froggy’s, I ran the Topanga Fish Market, built on a simple idea: good food, good people, and a place to gather. This isn’t starting over—it’s finishing what’s already been fought for.
