Help Reopen Durham Region’s Only Wildlife Hospital
Donation protected
Because local wildlife still needs us—and we need you.
We recently announced the difficult news that Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue's Rehabilitation Hospital would be closed for the 2025 season due to lack of funding. Since then, several news outlets have shared our story, and we’ve heard from countless people—shocked, saddened, and asking:
“How did it come to this?” (Some in nicer ways than others)
We understand. This news is upsetting. But please know—we’re not doing this because we don’t care.
Quite the opposite. We care deeply.
That’s exactly what makes this so heartbreaking.

Why We Are Temporarily Closed
Several factors led to the closure of our hospital:
• A surge in injured and orphaned wild animals
• No government funding
• Unsustainable operating costs
• The emotional toll of turning animals away
We’re still here—still caring where we can—but the hospital, the heart of our work, needs your help to return.

Our Goal: $25,000 to Help Reopen in 2026
This GoFundMe will help us:
• Cover veterinary care, medicine, and species-specific treatment costs
• Restock medical and rehabilitation supplies
• Support the safe reopening of our wildlife hospital in 2026

Long-Term Support
We’re also working toward a sustainable goal of $15,000/month in recurring donations to help keep the wildlife hospital running long-term—so we never have to face another heartbreaking season like this again.
