Help Reopen Darkside Ludlow
On July 10th, we awoke to the sound of heavy rain and photos of our marketplace parking lot full of mud and water. As the day progressed, the rain kept coming and the flooding got worse. Drone videos showed a pond forming on at 57 Pond Street. By 6pm, a text message came through saying "your door has a hole in it." By the time any of us could get there, 28 inches of water had made it into every crevice of the shop. Once the back door was opened, it didn't take long for the water to recede and reveal the 6-10 inches of mud that also made its' way in. The scene was surreal, as we had just spent 2 months fully renovating our space and had just reopened for summer.
Almost 4 months later, we're scrambling to get open for winter. Our insurance policy didn't cover flooding or mud, and while we were able to save the majority of our inventory, we lost all of our fixtures, counters, racks and supplies. Not to mention everything we had just spent on renovations. Contractor bills are piling up as we rebuild our space from studs. Our initial rebuild estimate has nearly doubled as every step of the process brings new, unforeseen expenses. Couple that with being burned by a drywall contractor and we now find ourselves here, asking for your help. While we did receive a small bit of assistance from the State and local Chamber, we're still deep in the hole with quite a large expense remaining.
Anything raised here goes towards making our space ready to open by Thanksgiving- tape, mud, paint, ceiling tiles, flooring, finish carpentry, counters, fixtures, electronics and supplies, and labor. If you have some coin to donate, great. If you would rather come by the Killington shop and get yourself some new gear, even better!
We appreciate everyone who has supported us so far, and look forward to seeing you all this winter! Thanks in advance.
