Hi, my name is Heather. In February of 2021 I purchased what I thought was the perfect home. I had been searching for a year for a property with a dog kennel so that I could start my own business. My plan is to provide quarantine for dogs that are brought to Massachusetts for adoption from out of state. These dogs are rescued from high kill shelters or uncertain fates and brought here to live the rest of their lives happy and loved. The property I purchased had a "turn key" dog business already running. After seeing the kennels I knew there were updates I wanted to make. I spoke with everyone from the town to do my due diligence and ensure I could continue to operate the dog kennel. No one raised any red flags at the time other than some minor updates which I planned to do anyways. I moved in and got to work! Long story short, I'm no longer looking at minor updates. The kennel needed to be completely gutted and I have to basically start from scratch. With all the labor shortages it took forever to find a company that was capable and willing to perform the necessary work. Along with all the surprises I have encountered so far there has also been some major sticker shock. I haven't given up hope yet and I know all this hard work and stress will pay off.
