For generations, God’s people built altars as places of remembrance — visible reminders of His faithfulness and hope for the future. We believe The Altar SD is called to be such a place in the heart of San Diego: a welcoming church community where people can encounter Jesus, find healing, and grow in faith.
For the past eighteen months, our team has been praying for a permanent home in the very neighborhood God has called us to serve. We asked God to open the right door in His perfect timing. To our surprise and gratitude, that door opened sooner than expected when a historic church building on Fern Street became available, just steps from our home and in the center of the community we love.
This building is more than a structure. In a city where very few properties are available or properly zoned for worship, Fern Street represents a rare opportunity. It is visible, accessible, and uniquely positioned to once again become a place of hope, prayer, and community for generations to come.
Our vision was not only to purchase the building, but to restore it, making it beautiful, safe, and fully accessible so it can serve the entire community. We are not simply restoring a building; we are helping restore a place where lives are changed, relationships are built, and hope is renewed.
Due to its age and years of deferred maintenance, the building is in need of significant restoration. This is where you come in. Your generosity will repair the roof, make the bathrooms handicap-accessible, create safe and welcoming spaces for children, revive pews, renew areas for worship, prayer, and learning, build an outdoor space that will be open to the community daily and much more.
When you give, you are not just supporting a project — you are becoming part of building an altar to the Lord: a place where the lost are found, the saints are strengthened to the glory of God.
