My name is Rene Cooke, and I am reaching out in a time of deep need. In October 2022, I suffered a stroke that changed my life forever. It left me with physical impairments and memory loss, making even daily tasks a challenge. Despite these obstacles, I am determined to rebuild my life but I need your help.

Before my stroke, I worked tirelessly even through the COVID-19 pandemic while battling illness and uncertainty like so many of us. My employer allowed me to telework during that time, and even after my stroke, I successfully returned to work remotely. I continued to excel in my job and even received performance awards for my dedication.

But everything changed when my employer abruptly ended telework for my department. Despite my disability, a medical certification from my doctor, and the protections of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), my request to continue teleworking as a reasonable accommodation was denied. My telework agreement was suspended in November 2023, and because of my medical condition, I could not safely return to the office. I have not been able to work since.

I filed a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to fight for my rights, but the process for federal workers is slow and complicated. My employer has dragged this out by repeatedly changing attorneys and using other tactics, making it even harder for me to get justice.

Meanwhile, my sister, who has been my biggest support, encouraged me to start this fundraiser.

I urgently need legal representation to continue my fight. I am trying to raise $15,000 to hire an attorney who can help me challenge this injustice and regain my job.
