Help Rene with medical bills

Hello! My name is Olivia and I am fundraising for my dad, Albert (Rene) Trevino. My dad has been a staple of the Indianapolis community for almost 20 years and running (in my opinion) the best bakery of all time. My dad has always been a powerhouse. Running the bakery, working out, taking care of my brother and I, and being overall extremely healthy.

Last fall, my dad got sick. This was weird because he rarely gets sick. After he was feeling better he started to complain about feeling like something is in his throat. For the next couple of months, he would continue to try and clear his throat. Eventually, this clearing turned into a cough. It wasn't very noticable at first, just coughing every so often. But over time it started to get worse. At the beginning of this year, he began to complain about it.

Because of my dad's insurance, he couldn't get a doctor's appointment until late spring of 2023. He began to go to minute clinics and urgent cares asking for them to look in his throat. They would look and say "It's clear. there is nothing wrong." So he would go home, feel worse, go back to another minute clinic, and they would say the same thing.

In March, he asked for a scope of his throat. When they did the scope, it was obvious that it was cancer and they did a biopsy. The doctor that did the scope set up a CT scan at Methodist to go see their throat doctor THAT SAME DAY. Dr. Monika Fischer is a customer of my dad's and was the one to get the process started and the attention that my dad needed.

On April 20th of this year, he was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. After his diagnosis, his health changed very fast. His breathing got more labored and his cough got worse. Although he was getting worse, he continued to work out, roll croissants, and continue to be his powerhouse self. But this diagnosis came as a big shock to everyone in his life, especially to the people close to him. Because of the type of cancer and the size of the tumor my dad has to receive a full tracheostomy on June 6th followed by a minimum of 7 weeks/5 days a week of radiation. I want to give a giant shoutout to Dr. Mantravadi and his surgical team at IU Health University Hospital in downtown Indianapolis as well as Dr. Greg Durm (my Dad's medical oncologist) and Dr. Mark Langer (my Dad's radiation oncologist). Thank you for taking such good care of my dad.

My dad has always been my hero. He is hardworking, strong, kind, and is the type of person who will give his all for the people he loves. Over my life, I feel as though my dad hasn't aged at all, in fact, it feels like he has gotten younger. To see my dad get sick has been extremely hard to face and words can't describe how much I love him and how much it hurts to see him hurting.

This sudden change has been extremely hard for the entire family and for the wonderful community that surrounds my dad. He has had so much support from everyone and people have been asking for ways to help. Therefore, my family and I decided to create this go fund me to help ease the financial burden that cancer causes. My dad is continuing to keep the bakery open, paying his employees, and dealing with the other general bills that come with owning a business. I want to do everything I can to make this as easy as possible for my dad.
The funds donated will be used to aid in the medical bills that my dad receives
and any leftover money will be donated to a cancer charity.

My dad and Ana (his girlfriend)

I thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for the kindness, love, and support that you all have shown for my dad. I love him so much and I want him to get back to what he loves. Thank you so much.
