Hello friends and family,
A dear friend of mine, Renae Lewis, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on January 3rd, 2019 at 24 years old. Renae was evaluated at an Emergency Department after presenting symptoms of anemia and received blood work, which quickly revealed that she had Leukemia. She was transferred to VCU Hospital in Richmond, Virginia where the facility is better suited to administer her treatment.
Renae has lead a life full of accomplishments. During her high school career, Renae was a star athlete on the volleyball team, a member of the track and field team, and senior class president. She’s always been at the top of her class, graduating from West High in 2013 as Valedictorian with a 4.5 GPA. In addition to being Valedictorian, she received many honors and scholarships which helped her to attend UC Davis where she graduated in 2018 with a B.S. in Human Development.
Since the age of 13, Renae dedicated her time to practicing and competing in Judo, earning a black belt at 18. During college, she also competed on the UC Davis women's rugby team as a starting player for two years. After graduating college, she moved from Davis, CA to Virginia Beach, VA where she works as a before-and-after school counselor at the YMCA and helps her older sister care for her twin babies. She loves her job and misses seeing the kids daily, both the ones at work and her nephews. Overall, Renae is a compassionate athlete and individual who loves dedicating her time to bettering herself and others.
At this point in her journey, she started chemotherapy on January 7th, 2019 and is unable to continue working until she completes her treatment. This GoFundMe account will aid her through the next year as she continues treatment to overcome Leukemia. Your financial help to reach the $5,000 goal will fund her $350 monthly rent, the cost of transportation for a weekly 1.5 hour drive to the VCU Hospital, and other living expenses. Any of the additional funds may go towards a wig once the chemotherapy causes her to lose her beautiful red hair.
Your support matters.
Together, we can bless Renae and her family to move forward in beating Leukemia. We are so grateful for every person who helps and keeps her in their prayers.
Thank you!!
