This is me, Remy, just weeks before my life turned upside down.
The day after what was supposed to be a regular check up to look at a small marble sized lump developing on the left side of my neck, and get an ear cleaning (had a yeast infection in left ear), I started to have blood tearing out of my left eye, and dripping from my nose. My ears were filled with blood too, especially my left ear. Went back to the vet, got some meds and a cone to keep me from scratching or further irritating my ears and eyes.
Picture below was taken on August 6th after going back to the vet.
The next day I woke up with my left eye filled with blood and swollen. I started bleeding from my gums too!
Taken: 8/7
Went back to the vet for lab work and a needle aspiration to rule out possible lymphoma from the lump in my neck (turns out it was an over active thyroid, basically my body is telling me somethings really wrong!)
Taken: 8/10, not looking my best
Remy is a 4 year old male Lilac tri Frenchie. The most energetic, happy, silly dog. His favorite things are his bouncy, which he loved to play fetch and basketball with, getting his daily rubbies, snacks, and chasing and wrestling with his brother Jack, a 60lbs pocketbully.
On August 6th, his life changed! He was in and out of the vet almost every day and 9 days later was in dire need of a blood transfusion to save his life! He was diagnosed with Immune thrombocytopenia - ITP. We didn’t know he had this issue otherwise we would have treated him a lot sooner, and taken him to the ER, instead of back and forth to the vet. One of the major symptoms of this disorder is bleeding. Remy was bleeding from his eyes, nose, gums and had bloody stool. After getting the blood transfusion to get his platelets back up to a healthy state, next was to treat the bleeding and critical ulcers in both eyes.
Taken: 8/16
On August 22nd he had so many platelets (yayy!) and was cleared to see an eye specialist who diagnosed him with severe Uveitis.
Unfortunately, Remy is now blind. Nonetheless, we went home from the eye specialist with stronger medication to help fight the infections and ulcers in his eyes. Always a trooper and resilient as ever, Remy keeps smiling through his pain and discomfort.
Taken: 8/22
Went back for an eye follow up on August 29th, almost a week post his new eye meds, but his left eye had gotten worse. The cornea is basically dead and he’ll need his left eye removed as soon as possible. While the ulcer in the right eye seems to be doing better, he still has no sight in that eye. We’re optimistic and praying for a miracle that he regains some sight in that eye!
Remy has been through a lot in the past 30 days. He’s such a fighter, the strongest little pup, and still has a lot of life left to live.
As Murphy’s Law would have it, we missed the opportunity to sign up for pet insurance which would have helped pay for these unforeseen expenses. His eye removal surgery is scheduled for this week, we pray he has a smooth procedure and recovery with no adverse side effects or further issues
We appreciate any donations, large or small, and ask that you keep Remy in your prayers!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
