In early October, my boy Remy got diagnosed with lung cancer after exhibiting a lingering cough for a few weeks. Like with all cancer diagnoses, it completely blindsided me.

If you know Remy in any capacity, you know how special he is. Every dog is special, but he is really, really special. Remy has been by my side for the past 10 years. I adopted him right after college, and he quickly became my fearless best friend. He lights up every room (or set) he walks into and loves to just be with everyone.

Many speak of the once-in-a-lifetime bond between a girl and the dog she gets in her 20s—the dog that guides you through many firsts, becomes the reason why you bring structure to your life (and get out of bed in the morning), the reason why I made friendships and met people. He has been the reason why I didn't fear starting new jobs (that were thankfully dog-friendly) and learned the importance of getting outside to enjoy a walk (that email can wait). We sat outside in the grass together during a global pandemic, watching the world slow down, and last year when my brother and I were taking care of my mom on hospice, he sat with us all, nudging hands for pets and lending his forehead as a place to deposit our tears. Remy wouldn't want me to overshare on the internet, but alas he can't read.

But back to the cancer...he was diagnosed with a low-grade well-differentiated pulmonary tumor in his left lung. The team at VCA believes he is a great candidate for surgery as well as it being the best treatment option (and hopefully curative). I want to give him the best chance at beating this cancer and give him many more love-filled years. He is scheduled for the lobectomy surgery on November 23rd and will need a few days of post-op hospitalization. I am optimistic and know he has a lot of fight in him.

The total cost is $14,672.97 and I am tapping into my network to help raise funds to help offset some of this cost. Remy said he would give you kisses and cuddles if you donate.
