Help Remove Meemaw’s Mammary Tumor
Hello all you beautiful people out there. I’m coming up on my one year “gotcha” anniversary for my dog Meemaw. In the past year this poor dog has been hit by a car, brought to a shelter, received care for her wounds including a hernia surgery and spay. Shortly after I adopted her, she started having severe, life threatening seizures. It required an MRI and spinal tap to figure out that she has skull fractures that never healed properly and she has trouble using her left side, including being blind in that eye. But hey that didn’t stop her from being the spunky dog that she is! We found a medication combo that keeps the seizures at bay.
Well, after we got that under control, I noticed a small red-ish purple lump down near the in between of her back legs. We had her usual check up and the vet said that she thought it looked and felt like breast cancer. Especially considering the proximity to her nipple.
She quoted me around $1,300 for a biopsy and the surgery to remove the mass.
Unfortunately with all the other bills I’m still paying on for her ER visits and her expensive medications each month, after my own bills there’s not a whole lot left to go around. I just didn’t have the money.
Now a month later her mass has doubled in size and I hate to see her cute little self wobbling around with it. And it just looks scary. I read that 50% of malignant dog mammary tumors can be cured by surgery alone.
She doesn’t seem affected by it so far. Still eating and drinking and playing and whining for my food. Still as sassy as ever and I want to keep it that way.
Anything helps! Thanks so much!
Love,
Morgan and Meemaw
