Hello, this is our fur boy Remington!

A few weeks ago, I noticed Remi’s eyes looked very different; quite a bit of his third eyelid was showing. I immediately reached out to his exotic vet, and he informed me I needed to bring him in for an appointment. On Monday, June 23rd, we took him to his vet appointment (that was the first available). As you all know, vets are costly, especially exotic animal hospitals/vets. While we were there, he had an exam ($75), his nails trimmed ($12), X-rays ($180), and was put on prednisone ($30), and that’s just the first appointment. Remi was confirmed/diagnosed with a thymoma. A thymoma originates from the thymus, a specialized immune system organ in the chest cavity. The tumor that he has in his chest cavity is putting pressure on the lungs, heart, and airway. The vet informed us that we need to see how his body reacts to the medication (prednisone) that he was prescribed and go from there. We can do radiation, but that is very costly and will require multiple appointments/treatments, which will be close to $4000-$6000. At this point, we have decided with the vet that it is best to just make him as comfortable as possible to still enjoy life. The vet said as of right now, his quality of life is still pretty great and we are trying to keep it that way as long as possible. We are set to go back for a check-up to the vet soon to examine him again, get more medication, more X-rays, and see how the tumor is. We are hoping that the medication can give him some more time, stop the progression of the tumor a little bit, and provide him with the best care. All of this is extremely costly and unexpected, of course. On top of it, not knowing how many appointments he will actually need during all of this. If anyone can donate anything towards helping our little boy, it would mean the world to us. We really just want to be able to care for him the best we possibly can right now, which financially seems impossible at the moment. I appreciate you all so much.
