Help Remington continue to help children

We live in a tight knit community where everyone comes together to help when someone is in need. For this reason I am coming to all of you...

It's no secret that I am a loud advocate for my children. So it was no surprise that Katie Bancroft and I really connected a couple years ago as she is always such an advocate for her students too. She is passionate about her profession, and for the past four years, has been a Reading and Math Specialist in the Primary School. Adam and I were so blessed she worked with Harper for the past two years.

Last year, she started bringing her dog, Remington, to school. Remington is a five year old boxer. He is so calm and always focused on the kids. He is the first therapy dog the Primary School has ever had. It's truly amazing to watch the bond that Katie and Remington share with the kids. My daughter, Harper was so excited to go to school. Working with Mrs. Bancroft and Remi was the best part of her day!

Over the last couple weeks Remington has been experincing some concerning health issues. Katie has had him back and forth to specialists and has already completed several tests. The fear is that Remington has osteosarcoma - a very aggressive bone cancer. We are hoping for the best care scenario- that everything was caught early. In order to make the best decisions for Remington, Katie will need to take him for AT LEAST two further tests so that there is a better picture of what they are dealing with.

Katie is a hard worker. Her husband is self- employed as a farmer and a mechanic. They have two young boys. Remington is a valued member of their family and is young and otherwise healthy. If proper steps are taken, and the stars align, it is possible that Remington could have several more years AND get back to his kids that he knows and loves at the Primary School. (Katie says that even now with him not feeling great, he waits every morning by the trunk of her car, wanting to load up to go to school. )

I am asking anyone who is an animal lover to step up. I am asking everyone who believes that animals are healing for our kids (who have been through so much over the past couple of years) to step up. I'm asking anyone who knows and loves Katie like we do, to step up. Everyone needs help, sometimes, and this is an opportunity for us to help someone who does a lot for our kids, every day.
