My name is Remie, and I am currently a junior in college. Getting to this point has not been easy—my mother has been the only breadwinner in our family for almost two years now, and it’s been a tremendous challenge for us. There have been times when I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to finish my degree at all. My grandma has been my savior, sacrificing so much to help me stay in school, but I know my family can barely afford my basic tuition and living expenses each semester. That’s why I’ve never asked them for more, even though I’ve always dreamed of studying abroad.

I’ve learned that nothing enriches your life quite like experiencing a new place. In just one week abroad, I discovered more about myself and the world than I had in years at home. The chance to travel, learn new languages, explore local literature, museums, and history—these are the things that make me happiest and help me grow. If I could, I would travel the world, learning and connecting with people everywhere. This summer, I have the opportunity to attend a month-long program in Paris, and it would mean everything to me to go.

Because of our financial situation, I can’t ask my family for help with this. The cost is simply too much for us right now, and I’ve always felt guilty even thinking about it. But I am bursting with hope that, with your support, I might finally be able to fulfill this dream. Any help you can give would mean the world to me.
