HELP RELOCATE THE WALLABIES

Help TAP relocate the wallabies!

The time has come where the wallaby relocation requires your help!

150 wallabies have been successfully relocated to their new safe havens! Another 250 are permitted to experience the same life-saving journey.

The initial stage of the relocation (150 wallabies) has cost $10k. However, much of this was necessary start-up costs such as: monitoring cameras and van modifications.

We expect to cover the rest of the relocation (250 wallabies) with our current fundraising events, plus this gofundme.

These animals are suffering and dying at a disastrous rate. Since the beginning of January, almost 300 wallabies have lost their lives and 42 have been injured and consequently euthanised (see link to death & rescue map below). It is imperative to continue with the relocation, not only for the 250 wallabies that get to have a new life in a safe location but also for the remaining wallaby population that resides at Trinity Beach. Grazing pressure and lack of habitat is causing them to venture further and further out onto roads, suburban houses and sports fields. The reality is… there’s only enough space left for a small population to remain. It seems Cairns Council will be dedicating a “green space” to them in future. But right now, it’s incredibly important to complete this relocation of 400 wallabies then assess if further relocations are needed. We cannot continue living in a community with such death and disaster.

What your funds will help cover:

- Fuel for the relocation van. Both to and from release sites which is approx. 3 hours worth of driving per trip.

- Monitoring equipment. This is extremely important to prove this relocation a success. Not only is this project helping these 400 wallabies but it garners support to perform relocations all over Australia. We hope people see that relocation is an option and should be considered BEFORE culling (mass slaughter).

- Sedation medication (diazepam costs around $60 per bottle and we go through an entire one each morning…)

- Vit E injectables (provided to each relocated wallaby to combat any potential stress that might’ve been caused during capture).

- Maintenance of the relocation van. It’s currently all up-to-scratch but as you can imagine, this vehicle is doing an excessive amount of work… so it may require some “doctor appointments”.

- Any other associated costs that might arise

This entire project is Voluntary based. None of the members are charging for their time which is absolutely incredible considering they have to start at 3 in the morning! Their dedication and passion to this cause is truly inspiring. Safe to say, it’s not an easy work-load but we all believe it’s totally worth it! Being able to see the wallabies hop off and take their first steps in their new home, is an experience that’s indescribable. We’ve all worked so hard to get to this point and therefore, are willing to give it everything we’ve got to ensure the wallabies have the best chance.

Thank you for your unwavering support and consideration. The wallabies and community are grateful for your help.
