Ron was diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma cancer back on November 16th 2019. He went in thinking something was wrong with his leg and left with the heavy news that it was cancer. The cancer had spread already with the discovery that it was in lymph nodes and 7 tumors on his brain. My mom and Ron went into action right away to try and beat cancer with immunotherapy, chemotherapy, and steroids. Which we all thought was working. That is until this past Saturday 4-18-2020 when Ron took a fall in the laundry room resulting in him being taking by ambulance to the emergency room. He broke a rib bone and they ran more test. The test results came back that the treatments haven't been working and that the tumors have tripled in size in the last 5 weeks. As you can imagine the reality of it is not good. My mom wants him home and was able to do so with the understanding that Ron is to have someone around 24/7 and can't be left alone.
The reason I made this GoFundMe for them is to help take the finical burden off of them and let my mom be able to take her FMLA to care for Ron. The pay of FMLA is not enough for her to pay all the bills. The whole situation has been stressful on them. So, with the help of family and friend I believe we can reach a high enough goal to take at least one weight off their shoulders. They deserve the world and not to worry about any finical things during this time.
Ron of course is a fighter and is going to start a 1/2 dose of Opdivo every two weeks (lower dose is to help prevent side effects and keep him comfortable). He starts this on Monday 4-27-2020. We will know in one month time if it is helping. If nothing else it will help him live longer.
If you would like to visit Ron please contact me (Cassie) or my sister (Emma). We will work with you on setting up a time to visit as we don't want Ron overwhelmed. Otherwise we will be posting updates on Ron/Dad on this page. We ask if you could refrain from calling the house as it has been a bit over whelming for them as they're still trying to process this news. They love the support and kind words, but this page will make it easier to update everyone on any new developments.
