On May 30th, Jesus Orona Prieto was pulled from his car and mistakenly charged with felony rioting while on a date night in downtown Phoenix with his girlfriend, Corina Paez. The couple weren't rioting, yet they were swept up in mass arrests.
Afterwards, Phoenix Police Department turned Jesus over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, where he was placed in a detention center currently undergoing a COVID-19 outbreak. His girlfriend was released.
Unlike the other ICE detainees who were arrested at the protest that night, Jesus still hasn’t been released. He’s awaiting imminent deportation, back to Chihuahua, Mexico, where he faced death threats from a gang - the reason he left the country in the first place.
Jesus needs your help.
He doesn't have a lawyer or any family in Arizona. His girlfriend lost her job as a result of her arrest, so she has little money to help. She also had a miscarriage last Monday, as if things couldn't get any worse for them.
Please help us put pressure on ICE and raise money so that the couple can afford a lawyer.
