Rejick, my male standard poodle, is not even two years old and has already become a beloved member of our family. Recently, he ran into the street after his leash detached from his collar and was hit by a car, causing lacerations on one hind paw and a complete degloving injury on the other. The driver left the scene as Rejick was bleeding out, and despite getting a picture of the license plate from a bystander, the police cannot do much to help. Rejick is now in critical condition, with a high chance of needing an amputation for at least one of his paws. In the past 24 hours, we have been to two pet hospitals and are anxiously waiting for updates. He is very nervous when away from home and family, so we have been advised to hold off on visiting him. He has been sedated many times and put on and off general anesthesia since he was treated.
Since Rejick is so young, we are trying to keep him in the hospital's care for as long as we can financially allow, hoping his condition can improve and we can find a better solution than amputation. The funds raised will help cover the fee of hospital stay with 24-hour surveillance and care. We were advised to keep him there for a couple of days as he is relying on medication, antibiotics, and IV to stay stable. Your support will give him the best chance at recovery and help us cover these urgent medical expenses.
Our dog has become a part of our family and we love him dearly. If you can offer anything at all to help, we would greatly appreciate it! If you can't donate, please spread the word. This is a freak accident and should be shared. Drivers need to be careful, aware of their surroundings, and adhere to the speed limit. My dog's condition could've been much more stable if the car slowed down upon impact.
