For most of Rei’s life she was able bodied. She could drive, walk around the block, walk her dog Mochi and dance till her hearts content. She had begun to notice neurological symptoms (trouble walking, aches and pains, etc) and when she went to her doctors they advised her it was psychosomatic (basically all in her head). It wasn’t till she went on vacation in Portugal with her husband that things started to get worse. She began to have trouble walking for more than a few feet, her aches and pains grew more and more painful. By the time she returned home she could not get around without the aide of either her beautiful cane Wanda or a wheelchair that was loaned to her. She has lost so much that we all take for granted. She can’t go to the store without someone taking her, she can’t walk her dog, or do any physical activities that used to bring her so much joy. At this time we are still working tirelessly to get Rei a medical diagnosis. It has taken numerous hospital visits and being turned away hundreds of times before finally finding someone who took her case seriously. Until we have a definitive diagnosis Rei doesn’t qualify for any kind of disability or other income.
The point of this fundraiser is to help Rei get her independence back. She had qualified for a government assisted program to have 75% of the cost of a wheelchair cost covered but that still leaves a cost of$3000 or more that has to be paid. We all know what it’s like, especially right now, out there to gain access to that kind of money. Rei is the kindest person I have ever known, she has a heart of gold and helps anyone she can, even when she can’t help herself. Any donated amount helps, sharing this go fund me helps. Let’s help Rei get her wheels back.
