Hi everyone! Thank you so much for donating to this Gofundme.
This fundraiser is hosted by me, Maria Gajardo and I'm based in Oakland, California. This fundraiser is to help rehouse the Warrick family who are my dear friends and neighbors. As many of you know, my neighbors (and second family <3), are the biggest loves of my life. Unfortunately, the septic tank of the apartment they've lived in for 9 years has broken in the last 9 months and is progressively getting worse. I'm raising funds to help move them out of these unsanitary conditions and into a new home. The piping for the septic tank that retains the sewage of all 9 apartments in their complex sits beneath their apartment. Unfortunately, the pipes have broken and sewage rises from the sinks, toilet, and bathtub into their home several times a month. Sometimes they aren't home when it happens and it floods their entire apartment. This situation has been ongoing for at least 9 months, is completely unsanitary, and the housing authority isn't taking action fast enough.
Once the housing authority does take action, my neighbors would most likely be relocated to an apartment far away from the kids' schools which means they'd probably have to be transferred. This would only add strain and stress to an already stressful year. As so many of us, the Warrick family is having a difficult time getting through the pandemic and there is added stress with the kids struggling to focus with school being online. Sewage continuing to spew out of their faucets and sinks and bathtubs is making an already intense and economically stressful year close to unbearable. Sometimes Mama will come home from an intense day of work and find that sewage is coming out of her bathtub so she has to spend hours and hours cleaning and getting it all out and can't bathe her toddler. The kids are even scared to drink the water because they've seen what has come out of the sinks.
The total of $20,000 will be used to pay for a deposit, first, and last month's rent of a new home in West Oakland. The funds will also cover the back rent that the family has accrued during the pandemic. Anything left over will go to the family to help buy new furniture for the children's rooms and living room to help make their new home cozy.
The way the funds will be distributed to the family is by having their account directly set up for all withdrawals and they will be receiving the money directly. I will not handle any of these funds myself.
Thank you all for contributing to making my sweet neighbor's lives a bit easier during a crazy stressful year. They are my heart and soul and every donation means the world to us. We love you all!
Love,
Maria Paz
