Help Reggie Crim Overcome Overwhelming Medical Costs

Hi There,

We, Manuel and Kasey, are faculty at UT Austin. Our friend and colleague Reggie Crim has recently had to undergo a highly invasive, medically important procedure that wasn't covered by insurance (see more information below.) The cost is overwhelming. Reggie has been an incredible support to the two of us. Without Reggie, my and Kasey's careers could have gone very differently. He has also been a trusted friend, and we feel deeply indebted to Reggie. We are sure this is not only true for us but probably for many other faculty and staff across UT. In this time of need, we want to be there for Reggie like he was there for us. So, we ask you to come together as a community and help Reggie through this difficult time.

Reggie underwent an intensive and medically necessary oral and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery to address severe dental deterioration and a collapsed bite—conditions that were causing chronic pain, difficulty eating, and long-term health risks. The procedure involved the extraction of all remaining teeth, placement of multiple titanium implants, and orthognathic (jaw) surgery to realign the upper and lower jaws. This type of surgery is not cosmetic; it is essential for restoring basic function and preventing further complications like bone loss, TMJ disorders, and nutritional challenges. Despite its urgency and complexity, insurance did not cover the majority of the procedure, leaving Reggie to shoulder the full financial burden. As if that weren’t enough, Reggie also experienced a serious cardiac episode in the days leading up to the surgery, adding medical uncertainty and emotional stress to an already overwhelming time.
