Help Regan's Friend Escape Immediate Danger

My name is Regan. I have been a mentor since 2003. One former mentee is now a grown woman and friend that is in immediate danger. Since January, her ex has slashed her tires three times, shattered her car windows, stolen the two baby car seats, and even sent gang members to invade her home and beat her up. The police are considering the attack she survived on March 7 as attempted murder. For months, we thought the vandalism and attacks were random because they happened in various places, but now we have proof—he’s stalking her, growing bolder every day.

Her apartment complex just gave her notice: She has to leave. They are ending her lease because of the violence AGAINST HER, and they are worried about the safety of other residents. She has a YWCA domestic violence counselor and a social worker now. But even on the "urgent relocation list," she faces a 45-day wait. She doesn't have that kind of time. The leasing office is brutal. She has just a few days. The social worker, DV counselor and I have worked with her to make a safe exit from the area.

We are $7,000 short of what’s needed to get her and her children to safety—covering a car tune-up, temporary housing at a short-term rental so the kids can finish the school year, and essentials until she can work full-time again.
