Hi, I'm a University of Michigan student who started a non-profit to provide culturally appropriate foods for refugees in Washtenaw County called Refugee Garden Initiatives. This project launched last year and I had the opportunity to work with a client named Jeanine who is a resilient, hard-working individual full of life. She is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was living in a refugee camp in Tanzania for 20 years before being resettled in the U.S in 2019. Recently she experienced a setback and she is in dire need of help to find housing for herself and her 5 children as she is currently experiencing homelessness. Homeless shelters and hotels in the area are fully booked for the summer. We will use the funds to cover the security deposit, some clothes and basic necessities, and the first month of rent.
