Dear community,
A car crashed into our Mission storefront in the middle of the night on June 10 in a hit-and-run accident. Thankfully, no one was working or dining at the restaurant at the time, so no one was hurt that we know of. Overwhelmed with the financial stresses of the slower summer months and our Oakland opening delays, we did what we had to do to quickly board it up and continue to run operations because skipping a beat didn’t feel like an option. But the reality is, structural damage was done to our storefront that we need to repair in order to offer a pleasant dining experience for our customers. This came amid an already tight financial period with the summer slowdown and a slew of other maintenance and repairs that come with operating in a 2nd generation restaurant.
We submitted a claim to our insurance immediately, but cogs of the machine are turning very slowly, as they’re designed to do. Estimated repairs are quoted at $182,325 and could take upwards of 6 weeks if permits need to be pulled. We're still awaiting confirmation of what will be covered by insurance. We’re raising funds to help us deal with the immediate cash needs of closing our operations as we get these repairs made.
We are tapping into our Sumoud — steadfast resilience — and we’re not going to let this setback get us down! But we’re calling our community in to keep us going as we ride the waves. Any amount you can contribute would help!
Love,
The Reem’s Team
