Reed Slade is the son of one of my best friends, and he’s an 18-year-old young man who just graduated high school and works full-time for a construction company. He’s been doing everything he can to build a stable future for himself—but an unexpected tragedy has turned his life upside down. While house- and pet-sitting, a fire broke out in the barn on the property. Strong winds pushed the flames toward Reed’s truck and then to the attached garage. Thankfully, a passerby noticed the fire in time and helped get Reed, his girlfriend, the two dogs, and cat out safely. We are beyond grateful that everyone is okay—but the damage left behind is devastating.

Reed’s 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, which he had just proudly purchased with his hard-earned savings, was completely destroyed. Because he only had liability insurance, he will receive no compensation for the loss. Now, Reed is left without a vehicle, making it extremely difficult to get to work and keep building the life he’s worked so hard for. With limited funds, Reed has no way to replace his truck on his own. That’s why we’re coming together as a community to help him get back on his feet.
