Help Red Steagall Fight Cancer
Donation protected
My sister Karman and I had a trip planned to see my father’s grave on the 1-year anniversary of his death when she was called to go back to her home in Palm Springs to tend to her husband, Bob Red Steagall, who was ill. Red thought he had the flu just a month earlier when Karman left for North Dakota. However, as time went on, it appeared there was something more serious happening. Red had a brother and a father who had previously suffered from prostate cancer. As the tests came back it appeared that Red would have the same battle. The trouble is that Red had left his job in northern California just a year earlier to start a store with my sister in Palm Springs. The store was still attempting to break even when his cancer was discovered. Like so many self-employed Americans trying to get their businesses off the ground, Red and Karman had neglected to get health insurance over that year. Now they are faced with having to provide cash payment before Red can even be treated. There has already been multiple C Scans, MRI’s, Appointments with multiple Doctors, and extensive blood work. The tests so far show Red will still need more tests, surgery, and chemotherapy. The extent of his cancer is yet unknown but the severity of his suffering and initial assessment by doctors indicate that the cancer has likely spread to other parts of his body, likely his bones and esophagus. Karman is beside herself trying to stay strong for Red, while at the same time, she has to figure out how to pay the bills to ensure her husband can be treated on the income of a store that is barely breaking even. With the cost of keeping the store open, she will have to close and find some other source of income. She is looking into other methods of insurance, but has been told that she cannot obtain ACA (Obamacare) until 2019 through the standard open enrollment. Red’s symptoms have grown so extensive so quickly that it is hard to think of where he will be at that time without treatment. His need for care is urgent. Please help if you can.
