Help the Recovery Community in Ryan's Memory

Donation protected

August 7th will mark one year since the passing of Ryan—our beloved son, brother, brother-in-law, boyfriend, nephew, cousin, coworker, and friend. In our hearts, Ryan will always be remembered for the way in which he lived, not the way in which he died. Those who knew Ryan best knew he loved helping others—whether it was fixing a customer’s AC unit or sharing his message of hope at a support group.

In Ryan's memory, and for his upcoming 30th birthday, we humbly ask for your support as we keep his legacy alive and raise money for our neighbors in need. All funds raised, in addition to the donations made by our family, will go directly toward the purchase of bedding for residents of recovery houses in the Philadelphia area.

Our family's goal is to raise $1,000 so we can assemble (25) bedding bundles. Each bundle will include: (1) comforter, (1) fitted sheet, (1) pillowcase, (1) flat sheet, and (1) laundry hamper.  The approximate cost is $40 per unit. Our family will be purchasing, assembling, and delivering the bedding bundles to the recovery houses personally.

Recovery houses offer a safe haven to individuals in the early stages of recovery. They provide residents with peer support, accountability, and structure as they learn how to sustain long-term recovery and live independently. Oftentimes, because of the chronic, relapsing nature of addiction, attrition rates at recovery houses are high. The frequent turnover makes it increasingly difficult for house managers to provide new residents with basic essentials for living, such as clean bed sheets, blankets, and pillows.

Over the years, recovery houses offered Ryan a safe and supportive place to heal. Through our collective donation of bedding, we hope to help the people Ryan spent so much of his meaningful life with—the recovery community of South Philly. Although simple, clean bed sheets can restore pride, self-respect, and dignity to new residents of these recovery houses so they can focus on their own healing.
