I was gone for Christmas and my car got towed from my normal parking spot by a private tow company because my tags are expired. They are now charging me a couple thousand to release my car back.

There's probably a lot of folks who deal with this when they leave town for the holidays, only to come back and find a massive bill they weren't expecting on top of losing their vehicle. Predatory tow companies strike at the worst time of the year so they can make a fortune screwing over broke folks like me every day. And it's all perfectly legal.

I think I can can cover the expired registration which I had already planned to deal with after the holidays -- but the fees from the tow company are insane and way beyond what I can cover.

I hate asking for help like this, but hoping the community will be able to support me.
