Help recover from carjacking and damages
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nina and on Christmas Day at 3:20 AM, my Kia was stolen from our driveway. The carjackers broke the passenger side window, ransacked belongings, stole my 2 year old’s car seat. Inside the car was mud, garbage, drug paraphernalia & more. They kicked my car, leaving shoe prints, ripped off pieces of trim, destroyed the steering column, and left us feeling terrified and broken on the most magical day of the year.
The city of Buffalo does not have any penalty or laws in place for these kinds of crimes. There has been a string of carjackings for several years in our area and they believe there is a ring of juveniles responsible but they have no identification on the suspects. Our cameras cut out footage, leading us to think they staked out the house and used a WiFi blocker. They also approached from the only blind spot between cameras.
The police are chalking the incident up as an unfortunate act by a bunch of kids. Infancy laws in our area protect minors for conducting these crimes.
This means we are responsible for all the damages, impounding fees, and more. My husband’s truck was recently damaged in a collision so we have been sharing my car. As of right now, we have no transportation for either of us to get to work, the grocery store, or anywhere our kids need to go.
We’ve been in the middle of figuring out a move back to our home state of VA and could not have predicted this.
I am asking for help because we are not being assisted by insurance for the incident. I have renewed a NYS policy in order for impound to release the car, but there are still needs for repairs and fees in the meantime to use public transport/uber/lyft, etc.
Anything at all will help. I know these are hard times for everyone. Please consider sharing.
