Help Rec Get Life-Saving Surgery
Donation protected
About a year and a half ago I suffered a hernia on my left side, almost perfectly in the same spot as a hernia I had when I was 8 years old. It took me months to get past the initial pain, and without insurance, I can't afford to have the surgery.
Out of pocket costs are somewhere around $10k and that's without factoring any other costs; and the best options anywhere near me would require a day of travel each way. Including travel each way, lodging for at least a day or two to recover before travelling again, unforseen costs that always pop up, tax, recovery costs, and fees, the total rounds out at about $15k.
As it stands now, I can barely walk most days. I can't jog, run, sprint, jump, or lift anything heavier than my cat. I have thankfully been staying with friends for a while who have taken a load off my shoulders, but this is temporary. I do not have the means to support myself once I've left this place, unless I can return to working full time. My existing health issues, compounded with long covid symptoms and now the slow decline of my ability with this injury, have led to the point that I cannot physically do the hours of work I would need to to survive the cost of living. I want to be able to work again, to get back to the independence I had and enjoy.
If this fundraiser gets completed, it would be enough for the surgery, recovery time, miscellaneous costs, and *maybe* a little to assist me in moving to a new place where I can start over. If I am able to get the surgery, I would be able to return to working my old industries and support myself just fine. I already have avenues of finding solid work that pays well and doesn't overwork me.
I know it's a lot to ask, and everyone I know is struggling. I just hope this last small miracle can come true, if only so I don't put my cat through the trauma of losing me.
Thank you for your time.
