Help Reby and Mr Jenkins - Hurricane Ida

Donation protected

Our friend, Reby/Rebecca Rae was in New Orleans when Hurricane Ida hit.

This fund is to help her and her kickass senior rescue pitbull, Mr Jenkins, get to California where they have free accommodations for the Fall and better prospects for temp work.

This fund will pay for :

- Food & Lodging for two weeks

- Gas

- Broken Passenger Window

- Essential Crap absent-mindedly left behind [you try packing by candlelight]

- Mr Jenkins' Pills for a few weeks

- Replacing the tire [and it's partner] that Mr D on Broad St rolled his eyes at when she pulled in for that 2nd nail patch 2wks ago

- Rent at her insanely discounted Marigny apartment [for 1mos, ideally 2mos], that suffered no damage, and is currently housing people working to rebuild New Orleans whose homes became inhabitable. She needs to hold onto this place so she doesn't become displaced by surging rents upon her return. [This happened after Katrina and prevented many from going home]

Reby really hopes that enough money can be raised so that she can cover her expenses and share the wealth by donating leftover funds to other evacuated Performers, specifically those whose are BIPOC and LGBTQIA.

Thank you so much for taking the time to consider donating to this fund. Please reach out with any questions you might have - many thanks - Eileen, Mr Dodgy, Barbara & Annie

"Sorry, but who is Reby...she looks familiar...."

I bet she does! Reby lived in SF '94-'09 and during that time worked at Annie's Cocktail Lounge/Social Club, volunteered at the CalAcademy of Sciences, revelled with the SFKM, and was a GoGo Dancer at Stinky's Peepshow. Favorite Bars included Amnesia, Lucky 13, Benders, The 500 Club and Butter. She moved to New Orleans in 2009 and has been Bon Temp'ing ever since, performing in local cabarets and theaters while perfecting her skills as an Infant / Twin Nanny Specialist.

"But why Evacuate? I heard power may be back sooner than expected...."

Sure, it might be. Or there might be another hurricane. Evacuating people who have work & accommodations elsewhere reduces the demands on New Orleans' extremely limited resources. Power coming back on doesn't change the amount of work needing to be done to make New Orleans a functioning city again. Plus, Reby's current contract was scheduled to end 9/10 - and all prospective interviews are currently out of town. It makes sense to get them to California.

"But who is Mr Jenkins?"

Mr Jenkins is a 12yr old rescue pitbull that Reby found in the Bywater 10.5yrs ago. He's lived quite the life - not only was he recently immortalized by New Orleans' painter Mardiclaw, but is welcome at many New Orleans' institutions such as Kajuns, BJs, Vaughans, and participated in the Mr Okra Second Line. He's on a pharmaceutical regimen to treat his congenital heart failure and mast cell tumors; sure - he's an old dog but he's still got pep in his step and love for every creature - except squirrels! Mr J is a real Mensch as well; over the last year, he's been a foster brother to four tiny Kitties and one Chiweenie, Lulabelle, who was dumped on the steps of a pet shop at 5pm on NYE. Mr Jenkins deserves better than a hasty exit brought about by a Hurricane - which is why they are driving and not flying.
