I am organizing a way to help my dear friend/sister and proud Jamaican, Georgian Taylor. Words cannot describe what her family means to mine. From the first time we were invited to Jamaica, it immediately became our adopted home. We fell in love with the people, culture, and the abundant fruits native to Jamaica such as mango, guava, ackee, soursop, and guinep.
Georgian’s family home where her sister and family reside the windows, roof and doors have been blown off. Neighbors alike have lost family heirlooms ,personal belongings that carried generations of memories.
The community has been hit hard. Many homes are still without electricity or any reliable way to communicate, and the storm also wiped out local livestock and fruit trees, which so many families depend on for food and income.
Funds raised here will go directly toward:
• Rebuilding and repairing
• Providing food and basic supplies
• Purchasing generators for power
• Supporting neighbors and families in community who are struggling
• Helping restore livestock and fruit trees vital to local livelihoods
If you googled selfless, altruistic or resilient there would be a picture of Georgian. As you can imagine this has taken a significant toll on her as she has been unable to help or even communicate with family.
Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference. As soon as travel is possible to Jamaica, Georgian plan on traveling to provide emotional support and resources to her native land. Some may think of Jamaica as a vacation spot but to others they call it home.
