Hi my name is Jasmine, I am the co-creator of Vale of the Stars Roundhouse, situated in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela mountains of central Portugal.
Help Needed
On the morning of Sunday December the 12th, the Roundhouse at Vale of the Stars Retreat Centre suffered a serious fire. The walls, floor, roof and structure have been significantly damaged, but it could have been drastically worse! So I have deep gratitude to all the caring neighbours who came to the rescue and quenched the fire, and I’m immensely thankful that it can be repaired, and where possible improved upon, creating, in stone, brick and cement, a sturdy area for the wood stove.

With the help of your donations for materials, and the local goodwill of neighbours and friends, we have the chance to rebuild it in time for spring. This will enable local community events and gatherings to continue as before.
Reconnecting
During these challenging times the Roundhouse has become a centre of connection. It has offered a sanctuary of healing, support and gatherings for many of the ‘settlers’ that have arrived here to the mountains of the Serra da Estrela, in the past few years.
Vale of the Stars is addressing the profound impact of mental health issues currently affecting our human race. To this end we are focusing on nature based retreats, classes and courses that offer ways to be resilient and healthy in body and mind in these modern times.
A hub for families
Through the weekly playgroup, the Roundhouse has offered new families arriving in the area, a chance to build networks of support and lasting friendships. This in turn offers future generations a space to develop sustainable communities. This is a space that will offer family and kids camps, that will drive a deeper connection to the natural world and sustainable living for future generations.

Enabling land regeneration, biodiversity, and relinquishing the negative impact of mono-culture forestry, the focus here is on co-creation of a ‘New Earth’.

The vision for the continued growth of the Vale of the Stars project is to develop the woodland regeneration and biodiversity zones, create infrastructure such as a play area, climbing frames, tree houses, camping facilities, a paddling pool and food growing zones.
Determined to keep going
Presently some of the activities, such as the playgroup, are still continuing in the smaller space of the geodesic dome. By generating the funds, we can build back the Roundhouse in time for the spring, facilitating the donation based community groups, classes and events to develop and grow, whilst offering inspiration for new projects in the coming summer season and for many years ahead.
