Help Rebuild the Nolichucky Gorge Campground after Helene
Donation protected
The Nolichucky Gorge Campground has been a fixture of Northeast Tennessee and the river community for decades, started by the legendary Rick Murray who owned it until his death in 2022. The property remains in the family and continues to serve visitors every year, providing them with the opportunity to create lasting memories in one of the most beautiful settings in the Southern Appalachians.
This is now sadly at risk. The campground was at ground zero when Helene tore through the region on Sep 27, 2024, and suffered major flood damage, losing all but one of its buildings. The flood also removed 20-25 feet of the riverbank along the entire length of the property, including most of the tent camping sites. A significant part of the remaining property is under several feet of sand and debris.
Recovery, including the rebuilding and repair of bathrooms, cabins, the main office, and camp sites, will require significant investment and they, like many affected by this unprecedented disaster, do not have flood insurance to pay for the recovery given that most of the property was above what is considered the normal flood plain. They need our help! Please consider making a financial donation to help this long-time regional cornerstone get back on their feet. All funds go directly to the campground. Thank you!
