My Grandparent’s home sustained significant damage during Hurricane Melissa. This home has been the refuge of the Muir Family for four (4) generations of Muir’s. Located in the hills of Jericho in Hanover, Jamaica, my Grandfather built the first home with his hands, and it has been designed to live purely off the grid - water/plumbing is sourced directly from the rain, food is farmed straight off the land.
This home was rebuilt after Hurricane Gilbert in 1988; and it will be rebuilt again after Hurricane Melissa.
Today, I am asking your support to help with the rebuilding process. Currently, my Aunt and Uncle live in the home and have been impacted by this disaster - losing a roof, personal belongings (clothing etc.) and are without electricity for the near future (our side of the island may not regain electricity until January 2026).
All proceeds received will go towards replacing personal effects for my Aunt and Uncle (namely clothes), a generator, tools, lumber, windows to repair and rebuild areas of the home that sustained damage as well as cover the cost of shipping and receiving these items in Jamaica, and transporting them to the home.
Thank you for your time and consideration, and sharing this story.
One Love
