Help Rebuild the Home My Father Built With His Hands

When most people think of home, they picture the people who fill it with love. But for me, home was also the boards that kept out the rain, the walls my father raised with his bare hands, and the roof that sheltered generations of dreams.
That home—our home in Jamaica—is gone.
Hurricane Melissa came without mercy. It tore through our community and ripped apart the house my father built with blood, sweat, and quiet pride. The same hands that once built homes for others can no longer rebuild ours. My father now lives with glaucoma, and the tools he once wielded with such skill now sit untouched.
The place that held our laughter, our grief, our memories—it’s been reduced to rubble. And I can’t bring it back alone.
I’m reaching out with a heart full of hope and a plea for help. My family needs a safe, dry place to sleep. We need a home again—not just walls and a roof, but a place where healing can begin.
If you’re able, please consider donating. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to rebuilding what was lost.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring. And thank you for helping me carry this burden I can no longer lift alone.
With gratitude,
I am a daughter trying to rebuild what love once built.
A Bit About Me and Where Your Support Will Go:
My name is Kayon Wendruff (Morris), and I come from the district of Hertford in Westmoreland, Jamaica. My father, Edward Morris, a skilled mason who once built homes for others, is now being cared for by my brother Rayon, his partner Tameka, their young daughter, and a new baby on the way.
The funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to my family in Jamaica to help rebuild our home with a stronger, more secure foundation. It breaks my heart that my father, who spent his life building shelter for others, can no longer rebuild his own. But with your help, we can give him—and our family—a safe place to call home again.
