Hello everyone
As you may be aware, the people of Gaza have experienced over 200 days of bombardment, displacement, and starvation as a result of the ongoing genocide that has turned the once beautiful Gaza into a living nightmare.
Our close friend Ayoub Aladaa and his family have faced unimaginable hardship.
During the current devastating war in Gaza, their home in the Al-Shujaiya neighbourhood was completely destroyed, leaving them without a roof over their heads. This hard-working family of eight, including a 10-year-old boy, has lost everything.
We are a group of friends from Europe and the USA who have known Ayoub and his family for 2 years, going through ups and downs together - from Ayoub's university graduation which he described as "the happiest day of his life" to the day they buried their grandmother who tragically died of cancer, a consequence of not having access to functioning hospitals anywhere nearby due to the Israeli military’s attacks. One of the most horrid moments was when Ayoub’s grandfather tried to exit from the neighborhood and was martyred on his way. They lost his body and found it after 129 days, as decomposed bones.
While a lot of people decide, understandably so, to evacuate to Rafah for their safety, The Aladaa family made the hard and brave decision to stay, simply put - they love Gaza, they don’t want to leave the place where they raised the family for generations and experienced the happiest, just as the hardest moments together.
When the war erupted, they opened their home to shelter 60 displaced neighbours who had nowhere else to go. Tragically, they all had to escape the neighbourhood due to the heavy bombardment, moving from place to place in the hope of finding some temporary safety.
They were lucky enough to come back after months of displacement, just to witness the total destruction of their home and the whole street.
Ayoub's father is a skilled tailor with 25 years of experience who also worked in construction before the war, and always made sure, no matter how hard it was, to support his family. Ayoub and his brother Mohamed had just finished university when the war upended all of their lives. Now, they find themselves among the many innocent civilians in Gaza who have lost everything they had. Everything but hope.
Their story of resilience has touched us and we are determined to help them rebuild their family home. The funds raised will be collected in a bank account in Portland, USA owned by Lisa, one of Ayoub's close friends before being sent directly to the family in Gaza through PayPal.
We are seeking to raise $40,000 to help the Aladaa family. $10,000 will go towards their immediate daily needs like food, clean water, clothes and medicine.
Water is undrinkable in Gaza, clean water comes only irregularly and due to the complete siege on Gaza, it is also very expensive. The remaining funds, $30,000 will be used to obtain construction materials and supplies, when it’ll be possible (and we must believe that it will be possible) to create a new home - a safe haven where they can restart their lives with dignity.
No family should have to endure what the Aladaas and Palestinian families like them have suffered. Please give generously so our dear friends can reclaim their future.
Any donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in their journey to rebuild and heal after this tragedy. We appreciate you standing with us to help this resilient family that we've come to love.
