Help Sea to Sky Farm Rebuild

Located in one of the worst-hit areas of the CZU August Lightning Complex Fires, Sea to Sky Farm in Bonny Doon has lost a large number of their crops and all of their fruit orchard. Their shed burned with all the seed, tools, packaging, and farmers' market supplies. Their cooler for storing produce, electric cart, bathrooms, showers, refrigerators, washer, and dryer, part of the greenhouse with all supplies and more essential farm equipment and facilities are gone. Already ordered produce burned, and their work truck is gone too. For much of their crop, and especially the fruit orchard, they have to start over. Founded in 2018 with the hope of expanding, this is a severe blow to a young business.

Sea to Sky needs support to cover the expense of parts and labor to rebuild.

Sea to Sky's mission is to use sustainable farming practices to provide healthy, organic produce to our local Santa Cruz community and bay area, while honoring and protecting the land, watershed, and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

Located in northern Santa Cruz County in Bonny Doon. It is a 24-acre CCOF certified organic fruit, vegetable, and herb farm, located 10 minutes from the ocean at 1600’ in elevation, surrounded by coastal redwoods with natural springs, and sites of Native American historical significance.  The farm was started by Chris and Dana Laughlin on Thanksgiving of 2018.

Sea to Sky Farm is located at 6040 Bonny Doon Road, Santa Cruz, CA 95060 within a mandatory evacuation area.

Disclaimer:
This campaign is run by Dagmar and Adrian Dolatschko, a mother-son team trying to help our local coastal farmers. We have been customers and fans of Sea to Sky Farm since they started selling at local Santa Cruz Farmers Markets. We want to support the young family that has worked so hard to build their dream.

We are running this campaign in affiliation with Sea to Sky Farms and all donations will be given fully to the farm to support rebuilding efforts.

Funds will be transferred directly to the owners of Sea to Sky Farm.

Update from September 1, 2020

Thank you to all who have already donated - such outpouring of support from our community, from friends, from customers - we cannot thank you enough. And besides - the kindness of strangers who don't know us! This gives us such hope and energy to rebuild.

Here are a few pictures from the recent developments:

Back when the fire burned - this was one of the worst moments when the fire jumped from the other side of the street to our side

And then what we found a few days later ...
Our beehives burned to ashes, a few still standing, strangely - and behind, green fields. This fire worked in mysterious ways.

This was the little electric car the workers and Chris and Dana used

This once was a camper trailer
This was our shed

And this was the work truck
These are the last red Bartlett pears harvested about 25 boxes that burned down in the cooler

And this is today's picture of hope and renewal and that somethings will survive no matter what ... sweet potato blossoms in the dusty fields

Blueberries in front of the redwood grove somehow managed to survive
And the sweet potato field - leaves slightly singed, but the potatoes below will be magnificent.

Between these little miracles of nature and the gift of generosity from people, it lifts our spirits and we are ready for the cleanup and rebuilding.

We even made it to the Live Oaks farmers market today in Santa Cruz with produce from the Waddell farm much of which escaped the fires (even though it burned all around on the hillsides). Looking forward to seeing customers and friends again soon.

Sending good thoughts, prayers, love and hope to all  -
(on behalf of ) Chris and Dana
