Help Rebuild Safety For My Recently Homeless Friend

I'm hoping to raise money to support my close friend as he navigates recent homelessness and mental health struggles. Like many of us, a dear friend of mine faces challenges with his mental health. A few years ago, his father, who was his biggest support system, tragically and suddenly passed away. My friend has been supporting himself and living on his own for the past 10 years, but in life, we each sometimes need additional support alongside us.

Having been discharged too soon from an inpatient hospital program, my friend was left without reliable access to healthcare and his medications and without health insurance.

While he was in the hospital, he was evicted from his apartment, and the landlord disposed of all of his personal belongings, leaving him with nothing. He also was let go from his job since they hadn't heard from him while facing mental health struggles in the hospital.

Shortly after, my friend finds himself living on the streets of a city unknown to him. His backpack containing his last few items was stolen. In his backpack were all of his forms of ID, his debit cards and cash, and his cellphone. Holding out hope, I tried to call my friend today, and an unknown woman answered, telling me that I must have the wrong number.

Miraculously, I discovered just hours ago that my friend is actually at a temporary homeless shelter; one within walking distance from me. This weekend, I'm planning to reunite with my friend, and I'm currently crafting a plan as to how to best support him.

I'm hoping to help my friend secure new forms of ID, a prepaid cellphone, and clothes including a winter coat. I strongly hope to help him gain access to the medications, healthcare, and health insurance that he needs, along with access to food, water, and of course a home that he can feel safe in.

No friend of mine will be living on the streets of this city.
