My name is Cherie Williams, and I live in Treasure Beach most of the year, one of the many communities in South West St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, that was devastated by Hurricane Melissa. I’m a mother, entrepreneur, and long-time community member who has worked and lived in this area for a year but have been visiting for years consistently.
This parish is home — and right now, home is hurting.
Over the last few days, I’ve been out assisting with care packages and delivering food at night to communities that have been cut off from the main food distribution sites. Roads are damaged, houses are gone, and families are struggling to meet even their most basic needs.
What broke me most were the mothers — women trying to care for their babies with no roof over their heads, no diapers, no formula, no medicine. Many of them have lost not only their homes but also the small businesses that sustained their families.
That’s why I started this campaign.
How the Funds Will Be Used
Every dollar raised will go directly to families in South West St. Elizabeth who have been severely affected — with a special focus on mothers and children. Funds will be spent as follows:
Immediate Relief: Diapers, baby formula, baby food, clothing, hygiene items, and other essential supplies for mothers and children.
Roof Repairs & Home Restoration: Helping mothers and families rebuild damaged roofs and secure safe living spaces.
Starlink: For communication, when we get to communities, some haven't been able to contact anyone. (1 device)
I will personally manage and distribute the funds, with updates and receipts shared through GoFundMe to ensure full transparency. Photos and videos of deliveries and repairs will be posted as we go, so donors can see the impact their kindness is making in real time.
This effort is completely community-driven — no big organizations, just neighbors helping neighbors.
If you’ve ever loved Jamaica — its people, its spirit, its resilience — please stand with us now. Together, we can bring hope and stability back to South West St. Elizabeth, one mother, one home, and one meal at a time.
