A few short words about Sam Nest and Rings MMA
Over the last 12 months Sam Nest has taken hit after hit and, after recent disastrous flooding, his gym Rings MMA has been left inoperable
Sam Nest is one of the pioneers of MMA in Australia. After some big career wins, including over UFC fighter Anthony Perosh, he retired in 2005 with a 16-1 record.
His dedication didn’t stop there. Sam opened Rings MMA in Lismore. He has since prioritized helping people in the Lismore community and has asked for very little in return. He has run classes especially for disadvantaged youth and has assisted many people with their sobriety.
But in the last 12 months he has been hit by catastrophe after catastrophe.
In mid-2021 Sam required surgery on torn ligaments in his knee, which he’s still recovering from. In November 2021 Sam and his wife tragically lost their teen daughter. Now the worst flood the region has ever seen has decimated his gym.
The members of Rings MMA stepped up to help clean the gym and recover what they can. The community is working tirelessly to rebuild the gym, but thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment has been destroyed. Sam Nest and the Rings MMA community face a dire situation and a bleak future without your help!
This GoFundMe will go directly to Rings MMA without deduction!
Your donations will:
• Provide support for Sam and his family
• Help cover the costs of cleaning and sanitizing the flooded building
• Replace heavy bags
• Replace strength and conditioning equipment
• Replace specialty MMA equipment, such as pads and gloves
• Replace damaged padding for the flooring and walls
• Replace or repair the damaged MMA Cage
• Assist members of Rings MMA with lost equipment
As a stretch goal, extra funds will be allocated to other MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms that have been affected by the recent flooding in the South QLD / Northen NSW region
