At just after 3 a.m. Sunday morning, May 25, we were awakened by the crackling sound of fire. We saw a strange glow outside and saw our barn fully engulfed in flames. We called 911, and two fire departments responded. Thankfully, no animals were in the barn, and the fire was able to be contained to just the barn and an old travel trailer and vehicle parked next to it. That's the bad news.
The good news is the next morning our pregnant mare foaled. We miscalculated her due date, or she would have been inside that barn in preparation for the foaling. Her baby, a filly, has been named Phoenix.
This morning we found out more bad news. Our insurance will not fully cover replacement of the barn due to its age (30 years old). We have milked our cows and goats in that barn and sheltered them from winter weather there. And now a little foal and her mother will need shelter as well. We have no choice but to rebuild. Won't you please help?
We would love a good old-fashioned barn-raising, but since we can't do that these days, we humbly ask you through this GoFundMe to help us house our animals.
We don't know exactly how much the shortfall will be, but updates will be forthcoming as soon as more information is available.
Thank you to all for the kind wishes and prayers. They are also so needed!
