Hi everyone, my name is Tiffany Grant, and I'm reaching out to you from my home in the West End of Negril, Jamaica.
In May 2024, I moved to this beautiful corner of the world, and it quickly became more than just a place to live—it has become my family. Now, this community is hurting. Hurricane Melissa has hit us hard, and the damage is significant.
While Negril is known for its stunning beauty, the West End is a tight-knit community of residents and small business owners who are often overlooked by larger aid efforts. As of today, most of us are still without power, water, cell service, and internet. The isolation is real. So many people who follow my work online have been asking me to check on their loved ones because they simply can’t get in contact with them.
The hurricane's winds were devastating. I’ve seen firsthand a neighbor's small stall, their only source of income, completely demolished. An elderly man on a side street has lost his roof and is now isolated. All around me, zinc roofs and board structures are gone, leaving families and businesses exposed and vulnerable.
Why I'm Asking for Your Help
Not everyone here has family or friends abroad they can turn to in a crisis. Since the storm, my inbox has been filled with messages from my online community asking, "How can we help?" This is how.
I want to use my platform to bridge the gap and channel your generosity directly to the people who need it most. I've been so fortunate to be welcomed with kindness by this community, and now it's my turn to return that favor in a major way.
The Plan: Direct, Transparent, and Immediate
My goal is to raise $10,000 USD, which is approximately 1.5 million Jamaican dollars.
Here’s exactly how the funds will be used:
Direct Distribution: 100% of the funds raised (after GoFundMe's standard processing fees) will be withdrawn by me. I will personally drive to get the cash, even if it means going all the way to Kingston, to get it into the hands of those in need.
Urgent Repairs: The money will be given as direct cash grants to families and small business owners in the West End for their most urgent needs: repairing roofs, rebuilding small structures, and buying essential building materials.
Full Transparency: I will post regular updates right here on this page to show you how your contributions are being put to work. You will see the impact of your donation.
This is a grassroots effort to help a resilient community get back on its feet, one family and one business at a time. Every single dollar makes a difference.
Thank you for your kindness and for helping me support my Jamaican family.
With gratitude,
Tiffany
